While mobile operators struggle to match current, and predicted, demand for video services, new research shows there is still money to be made from SMS.
A study of UK users by YouGov for business process services firm Firstsource Solutions found the majority of users (60%) are sending the same number of text messages in 2013 as they were in 2012, and just under a quarter (22%) claim they are sending more messages today than last year.
The study of 2,000 UK users also revealed a gender divide among those who say they are texting more, with 24% of females increasing usage compared to 19% of males.
Iain Regan, global head of sales and marketing at Firstsource Solutions, says the results show SMS is still an important communication channel due to the “simplicity of reaching someone in real time.”
