NBA Champion Marco Belinelli Announces Retirement

Former Italy guard and NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs Marco Belinelli has announced his retirement at age 39.

The Italian announced on social media that he is ending his career, noting that he devoted himself entirely to basketball. He thanked everyone who believed in him and admitted it is hard to say goodbye to the game that gave him everything.

Belinelli began his professional career in 2002 with Virtus and after more than two decades finished his playing career at the same club.

In the NBA he played 13 seasons, appearing in 925 games and winning the championship in 2014 with the San Antonio Spurs. In 2014 he also won the NBA All-Star Weekend three-point contest.

Over his career he won the Italian championship three times and lifted the EuroCup. In 2024 he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Italian league. He represented the national team from 2006, taking part in World and European Championships.
