NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced the upcoming start of discussions with potential partners for the NBA-Europe initiative, which envisions the formation of the league's first-ever European division.

I would say we’re casting a very, very wide net right now and essentially saying to anyone who’s interested. And then I think sometime in late January, or in January, we’ll be in a position to have more serious conversations with those interested parties.
Previously, it was reported that the NBA, in cooperation with FIBA, is considering the prospect of launching a new European championship in the 2026-27 season. It is expected to feature 16 teams, though not all will have permanent membership. Thus, the tournament's organization will be modeled after the EuroLeague.
The NBA predicts that future program participants will invest between $500 million and $1 billion into their basketball clubs. To refine the business plan, the league has engaged analytical firms.
