Due to a calf injury, San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama has already missed 12 games this season in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
This casts doubt on his participation in the minimum required 65 games needed for nomination for Defensive Player of the Year and inclusion in the All-NBA Team.
Last season, Wembanyama played only 46 games due to vein issues in his right shoulder area. The current injury again reduces his chances of receiving prestigious awards, which directly affects the potential value of his contract extension.
Wembanyama's new agreement is expected to reach approximately $271 million over a five-year period, but if he receives the MVP award, Defensive Player of the Year, or makes the All-Star Team, this amount could increase to $326 million.
Thus, every missed game could cost the French player up to $55 million.
