A Shame About the Man, But He Was a Dirty Barroom Boxer: Bivol’s Coach on Hatton’s Death

Gennady Mashianov, the well-known Russian coach who works with Dmitry Bivol, spoke to Telecomasia.net about the news of former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton’s death.

I remember him for his fights with Kostya Tszyu and Manny Pacquiao. He was reckless, he looked like a dirty barroom fighter. Only Pacquiao saw him for what he was; Kostya got lost in his game. Still, it’s a shame about the man. I met Hatton several times over the past five years. He didn’t look very healthy. He weighed well over 80 kg, and he didn’t lead a particularly healthy lifestyle.

Ricky Hatton died on September 14 at the age of 46. His last fight was in November 2012, when he was knocked out by Vyacheslav Senchenko in the ninth round. Hatton finished his career with 45 wins (32 by knockout) and three losses.
