John Fury, the father of former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, believes that Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk was handed victory twice in his fights against Tyson because promoters aimed to reduce the British fighter’s financial demands.
John Fury in an interview for Seconds Out
Well first and foremost he has his belts stolen off him didn’t he? What can you say? When someone’s paid you a shedload of money, they seem to resent letting you stay champion as well, don’t they? They stole his belts off him. They’ve took the biggest ticket seller out the game. Cause without Tyson Fury, there’s no dance partners. No disrespect to Usyk, great fighter, all-weight division fighter, but he hasn't got the charisma, pulling power or selling power that Tyson has.
Recall that their first encounter took place in May 2024 and went the distance, ending with a split decision victory for Usyk. In December of the same year, the boxers faced off again, where Usyk won by unanimous decision. Usyk has a record of 23 wins (14 by knockout) and no losses, while Fury has 34 wins (24 by knockout), two losses, and one draw.
