Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, responded to the announcement of a fight between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and popular blogger Jake Paul.
I hate these exhibitions, hate these 14oz gloves — I don’t know what it’s going to be — but you’ve got Jake who’s a 210, 220-pounder fighting a 135-pounder. Bit weird, but at the at same time I can’t by a hypocrite and say if you’re Gervonta Davis and you’re being offered $20-30-40M or whatever the number is, and you’re getting $7-8M to fight Lamont Roach in a 50/50, what are you going to do?
Paul was originally expected to fight Anthony Joshua, whose interests Hearn represents, but those negotiations fell through because of broadcasters.
Paul and Davis will headline a boxing card on November 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The scheduled ten-round bout is set at 195 pounds (88.7 kg).
Paul last fought in June 2025, defeating Julio César Chávez Jr. by unanimous decision. His record stands at 12 wins (seven by knockout) and one loss.
Davis last fought Lamont Roach in March 2025; that bout ended in a majority draw. Davis’s record is 30 wins (28 by knockout), one draw, and no losses.
