Famous Russian coach Vitaly Slanov told Telecomasia.net in an exclusive interview about his fighter Murat Gassiev’s win over Jeremiah Milton.
Vitaly Slanov exclusively for Telecom Asia Sport
Overall, I liked the fight. It was clear Murat was sticking to a plan. He didn’t rush and gradually closed the distance. The opponent was big, and you can’t rush in recklessly. In the second round I said the opponent would stop the fight in the second half – somewhere between round six and eight. I felt that way. Maybe we should have been more active earlier. But there was a long break. The last fight was in October last year. We had to observe and feel out the opponent. In the fourth round Murat was landing hard shots to the head and body. He built up his pressure. The opponent wouldn’t have lasted until the end.
Remember, Gassiev vs. Milton took place August 24 in Miami, USA. The fight was stopped after the sixth round because Milton’s corner doctor did not allow him to continue. The 31‑year‑old Gassiev has 32 wins and two losses. Milton, who is the same age, has 11 wins and two losses.
