2024 Olympic champion Imane Khelif of Algeria denied on her social media that she has stopped her sports career.
Earlier, Le Parisien, citing the boxer’s former manager Nasser Yesfah, reported that Khelif had quit boxing following a gender-related scandal.
Imane Khelif on her Facebook page
I would like to make it clear to the public that the reports of my retirement from boxing are false. It is based solely on statements made by a person who no longer represents me in any way, and whom I consider to have betrayed my trust and my country with his false and malicious statements. I have never announced my retirement from boxing. I remain committed to my sporting career, I train regularly and I maintain my physical condition between Algeria and Qatar in preparation for upcoming events.
In 2023 the International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified Khelif from the World Championships after she failed a gender test. Despite that, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed her to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won the gold medal in the 66 kg division. In the final she defeated China’s Yang Liu.
