Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a decision to suspend her from competitions organized by World Boxing, CAS said in a statement.
In May, World Boxing introduced mandatory gender testing for athletes and stated that Khelif would not be allowed to compete in women’s events until she undergoes a sex verification test.
In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified Khelif at the World Championships after she failed a gender test. Despite that, the International Olympic Committee allowed her to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the Algerian athlete won the gold medal in the up to 66 kg category, defeating China’s Yang Liu in the final.
