Second Boxer Dies After Tokyo Tournament

Japanese boxer Hiromasa Urakawa has died from injuries he sustained in the ring after a tournament in Tokyo, the Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) press office reported.

Urakawa died following a fight with fellow Japanese boxer Yoji Saito. In that bout Hiromasa was defeated by technical knockout in the eighth round.

Earlier, the death of another boxer who took part in the same tournament was reported. 28‑year‑old Shigetoshi Kotari died from injuries received in a title fight with Yamato Hato. That fight ended in a draw, but after the bout Kotari was rushed to hospital where doctors diagnosed a subdural hematoma and performed emergency brain surgery.
