The World Boxing Council (WBC) has stripped the American Terence Crawford of his title for failing to pay championship sanctioning fees following his fights with the Mexican Saul Alvarez and the representative of Uzbekistan, Israil Madrimov.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman
The WBC sent multiple communications to champion Crawford, his manager, and his legal counsel. Very unfortunately, the WBC did not even receive an acknowledgement of receipt, nor any response to any of those communications. The WBC had no choice but to act.
The organization also noted that Crawford’s reported purse for the Canelo fight was $50 million, and he was granted a discount, lowering the fee from 3% to 0.6%.
To recall, in September 2025, Terence Crawford defeated Saul Alvarez by unanimous decision and became the undisputed super middleweight world champion. He holds a record of 42 wins (31 by knockout) and zero losses.
