Left handed lower order batsman and right arm off spinner Moeen Ali is being recalled to the English squad for the second test against India. Ali has played 61 tests for England and has averaged 28.88 with the bat, scoring 2831 runs. Moeen has also claimed 189 wickets over his test career, making him an allrounder.

Moeen keeps shuffling in and out of the test team and his last game was against India this February where he claimed 8 wickets and also scored a quickfire 43 runs off 18 balls in the second innings.

In the first test against India in Nottingham, English team went ahead without a spinner so probably they are including Ali to fill that gap and also bolster the batting lineup. The first test match was drawn after being well poised with India needing 157 runs and England 9 wickets to ace the game, however, persistent rain wiped off the final day. The Second Test will be played on 12h August in the Lord’s.
