According to Italy’s Corriere della Sera, Ferrari’s top management is showing strong interest in 27-year-old Mercedes driver George Russell.
Italian journalists report that if, at the end of the 2026 season, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff manages to secure a contract with four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen (currently with Red Bull), Russell could be on his way to the Italian team. In that scenario, he would likely replace either Charles Leclerc or Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari.
Russell has been a full-time driver for the German manufacturer since 2022, having previously raced for Williams from 2019 to 2021. In the current 2025 season, after 20 races, he sits fourth in the drivers’ championship standings.
