Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner expressed his surprise at the dismissal of Christian Horner from Red Bull during an episode of The Red Flag podcast.
I was pretty surprised as well when it happened. I mean, you know that there was something going on at Red Bull. I think we all were aware of it. We cannot say 'oh we didn't know that something was going on' because it's more than a year now since we had that scandal in the beginning of last year. It wasn't happy days anymore at Red Bull, I would say, but I didn't expect it. I mean, if something like this happens, normally Red Bull is pretty good in managing it a little bit with a gliding path or something, but this came completely out of the blue, to me.
On July 9, British team principal Christian Horner was officially dismissed from his role at Red Bull Racing.
The 51-year-old had been in charge of Red Bull since 2005, leading the team to six Constructors’ Championships during his tenure.
Reports indicate that Laurent Mekies, who previously held the same position at Racing Bulls, has been appointed as the new team principal.
Currently, the Austrian team is in fourth place in the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship with 172 points, trailing McLaren, which has 460 points.
It was also reported that Christian Horner's dismissal could cost Red Bull $89 million.
