
Formula 1 organizers officially announced the inclusion of the Portuguese Grand Prix in the race schedule. According to the announcement, the Algarve International Circuit will host the rounds in the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said about the announcement:
I'm delighted to see Portimão return to the Formula 1 calendar and for the sport to continue to ignite the passion of our incredible Portuguese fanbase. The circuit delivers on-track excitement from the first corner to the chequered flag.
The inaugural Portuguese Grand Prix took place in 1958. The last time the race was held was in 2021, where the winner was British driver Lewis Hamilton, representing the Mercedes team.
The 2025 Formula 1 champion was McLaren driver Lando Norris. Second place went to Max Verstappen (Red Bull), and the prize top three was rounded out by Oscar Piastri (McLaren).
