Formula 1 has updated its regulations regarding car livery. In addition, participants in the meeting discussed the possible introduction of two mandatory pit stops and other technical amendments for the future rulebook.
Currently, the requirements for car paint schemes are lenient: teams must simply maintain one consistent livery throughout the season and ensure clear visibility of driver numbers. However, starting in 2026, this will change.
The commission approved a rule requiring that at least 55 percent of a car’s surface, when viewed from above and from the side, must be covered in paint or vinyl. This is intended to reduce exposed carbon fiber and improve car recognition on track.
The commission also agreed to clarify rules regarding driver-number assignments. It supported the idea of allowing drivers to change the numbers they received at their debut, though details of how this will be implemented have not yet been determined.
