Following the conclusion of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the stewards' decision to disqualify McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri was made public. The arguments the team used to try to prevent the penalty have now been revealed.
Norris and Piastri lost their second and fourth-place finishes due to excessive wear on the skid plank located beneath the floor of their cars. During the hearing, McLaren emphasized the existence of mitigating factors: the unexpectedly severe bouncing of the cars on the Las Vegas track, as well as unfavorable weather on Friday and shortened practice sessions.
Moreover, McLaren noted that the violations related to the planks on their cars were less severe than in previous incidents of increased wear recorded throughout the 2025 season.
However, the stewards deemed all these arguments unconvincing and upheld the decision to disqualify Norris and Piastri.
