The Formula 1 team Mercedes-AMG Petronas intends to submit materials concerning the online harassment of their driver, Italian racer Andrea Kimi Antonelli, to the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The main race of the Qatar Grand Prix took place in Doha on November 30. Antonelli, 18, finished in fifth position. However, on lap 56 of the race, the driver made a mistake and was overtaken by McLaren's Lando Norris, who finished fourth.
After the race, Antonelli began receiving hundreds of abusive and aggressive messages, many of which contained threats of physical violence or harm to the athlete and his family members. Mercedes management reported that they are taking the matter seriously and will submit the collected evidence to the FIA as part of the Charter Against Hate Speech on the Internet directed at athletes and other competition participants.
After 23 events of the 2025 Formula 1 season, Antonelli occupies seventh place in the drivers' standings, having scored 150 points.
