The head of the German Formula 1 team Mercedes-AMG Petronas, Toto Wolff, expressed his outrage over the statements made by Red Bull Racing's motorsports advisor, Helmut Marko.
Marko had accused Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli of allegedly deliberately letting McLaren racer Lando Norris pass him during the Qatar Grand Prix.
Bless him, Helmut. This is total, utter nonsense that blows my mind even to hear that. I mean, how brainless can you be to even say something like this? And it annoys me, because I'm annoyed with the race itself, how it went. Why would we even think about interfering in a driver championship? I mean, you really need to check yourself whether you see ghosts.
Recall that on the penultimate lap of the Qatar Grand Prix, Andrea Kimi Antonelli made a mistake and ran off the track at Turn 9. Lando Norris took advantage of the situation and overtook the young Italian, moving up to fourth place, which earned him twelve points instead of ten.
Helmut Marko expressed concern that those additional two points could play a decisive role in the fight for the championship title.
It should be noted that the winner of the Qatar Grand Prix event was Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who now occupies second place in the Formula 1 drivers' standings, trailing the leader, McLaren's Lando Norris, by just 12 points.
The champion of the Royal Races will be decided on Sunday, December 7, at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
