The current head of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem, was re-elected president for a second term following the voting results at the FIA General Assembly, held in Tashkent.
The election took place on December 12 in Uzbekistan. After the votes were counted, it was revealed that Ben Sulayem received 91.5% support.
There were no alternative candidates for the position of FIA president. Other individuals interested in a leadership role in the organization faced difficulties with registration due to the FIA statute requirements.
To participate in the elections, candidates were required to submit a so-called Presidential List, which included 10 people: the President of the Senate, the Deputy President for Automobile Mobility and Tourism, the Deputy President for Sport, and seven Vice-Presidents for Sport. These seven individuals had to be selected from FIA-approved candidates for the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) and represent different regions: North and South America, the Asia-Pacific region, the African continent, the Middle East and North Africa, and Europe.
