According to The Race, the fine imposed on the Red Bull team after the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix was related to an attempt to disrupt McLaren’s start.
The official reason for the penalty was the mechanic re-entering the track after being signaled to leave it.
Before the race, McLaren usually sticks a piece of tape on the wall near the spot where Lando Norris’s car is positioned – this helps the driver precisely position himself on the grid despite limited cockpit visibility. However, after most team members had already left the starting grid, one of the Red Bull mechanics returned and removed the tape.
It is noted that similar attempts have happened before – Red Bull representatives have previously tried to remove this tape at other championship stages. In response, McLaren took additional measures to make it more difficult. As a result of the incident, Red Bull was fined €50,000.
The winner of the US Grand Prix was Red Bull’s Dutch driver Max Verstappen. British driver Lando Norris from McLaren finished second, and Monegasque Charles Leclerc representing Ferrari came third.
The next Formula 1 stage will take place in Mexico from October 24 to 26.
