Verstappen Calls FIA Decision to Introduce Mandatory Cooling Vests Ridiculous

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen expressed dissatisfaction with the FIA's new requirements for mandatory use of cooling vests or adding weight to the car during the Singapore Grand Prix, speaking with Racingnews365.

Verstappen said the measures make no sense since high track temperatures are inevitable, some sweating is unavoidable, and the cooling vest quickly becomes useless.

Max Verstappen
I completely disagree with that. It’s a bit ridiculous to be honest. In the end it’s about your own safety and how you feel about it.

As of October 4, 2025, Verstappen is third in the Formula 1 drivers' standings with 255 points. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri lead with 299 and 324 points, respectively.
