Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso explained why he chose not to bring Brazilian winger Rodrygo Goes on during the first-round La Liga match against Osasuna (1–0).
Xabi Alonso on a press conference
Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course. It’s just a game. This was my decision.
Earlier reports said the 24‑year‑old Brazilian might leave the Madrid club, with several English teams showing interest in the winger.
Rodrygo has played for Real since July 2019. He has made 270 appearances, scoring 68 goals and providing 51 assists. His contract with the club runs until summer 2028. Transfermarkt estimates the Brazil international at €90 million.
Previously famous insider Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola is interested in signing Rodrygo from Real Madrid.
