Brazil national team head coach Carlo Ancelotti named the condition under which Santos forward Neymar could be called up to the national team for the 2026 World Cup.
Ancelotti said at a press conference:
I understand you guys are very interested in Neymar. I want to clarify. We are in December, World Cup is in June. When I announce the squad in May, if Neymar deserves to go, if he’s well, if he’s better or same as another, he will play the World Cup, period.
To recall, Neymar last appeared on the field for the Brazil national team on October 18, 2023, in a match against Uruguay (0-2), where he only played one half.
He has a total of 128 games for the national team, 79 goals scored, and 59 assists.
The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Forty-eight teams will participate in the tournament for the first time.
Brazil are also placed in a group with the national teams of Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland.
