Argentina vs. Puerto Rico Match Moved from Chicago Due to Immigrant Situation

According to the AP agency, the friendly football match between Argentina and Puerto Rico, originally scheduled in Chicago, has been relocated to Florida due to an emergency situation in the city.

The game, set for October 13 at Soldier Field in Chicago, will now be played at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Earlier rumors suggested ticket sales issues as the cause for the venue change.

AP reports the move results from former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard around Chicago, presumably to manage protests triggered by stricter immigration policies.

This fall, Chicago detained over a thousand migrants. The Trump administration announced plans to use the National Guard to speed up the deportation of illegal immigrants, sparking mass protests in Chicago.
