Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta praised 15-year-old midfielder Max Dowman after the club’s Matchday 4 Champions League league game against Prague’s Slavia.
Mikel Arteta, quoted by the Straits Times
The first ball he gets, he takes people on. He starts to dribble and gets a foul. That is personality, that is courage. You cannot teach that. You either have it or you don’t. It doesn’t matter what his passport says, you throw him in this context and he is able to adapt and have a good performance. We have a massive player there.
The 15-year-old entered the pitch in the second half, becoming the youngest player ever to feature in a Champions League match. He made his tournament debut at the age of 15 years and 308 days.
Notably, the match against Slavia marked Dowman’s fifth appearance for Arsenal’s senior team this season.
After this game, Arsenal remain in second place in the Champions League league standings with 12 points, while the Czech side, with two points, sit 30th in the overall table.
