Atletico managers want to fire Diego Simeone and appoint Luis Enrique after 2022 World Cup

FC Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone could be replaced by Spain national team coach Luis Enrique if he is fired, reports El Chiringuito.

According to the source, the representatives of Atletico have already notified Simeone of their intentions. Enrique intends to step down as head coach of the national team after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Simeone has been Atletico head coach for 11 years. Under his guidance the team became the champion of the Spanish Primera Division twice, and also the winner of the national Cup and the Super Cup. The current contract of the 52-year-old Argentinian specialist is valid until the summer of 2024. The forfeit fee in case of dismissal will cost the Madrid side €14 million.
