According to sources, the players are still part of the team's wage bill, despite having left the club long ago. Barcelona still has contractual obligations to them.
This is due to changes signed during the coronavirus pandemic, which have directly impacted the club's current financial situation.
Earlier, La Liga reduced Barcelona's salary cap by 66 million euros. It has also been reported that Messi has donated his eighth Ballon d'Or to the Barcelona museum.
