Barcelona President Laporta Reveals When Relationship With Messi Went Sour

Barcelona president Joan Laporta shared details about his relationship with the former Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, who currently plays for the MLS club Inter Miami.

Joan Laporta in an interview with Mundo Deportivo
We have had a very good relationship for a long time. When we didn’t renew the contract it broke down a bit. And then we more or less recovered it. We trust to pay him the great tribute he deserves.

Lionel Messi is a product of Barcelona’s youth system. He played for the club’s main squad from 2005 to 2021. In total, he appeared in 778 matches, scored 672 goals, and provided 303 assists.

With the Blaugrana, the 38-year-old Argentine won ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey trophies, and eight Spanish Super Cups, as well as four Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups.

After leaving Barcelona in 2021, Messi signed with Paris Saint-Germain, and in 2023 he moved to Inter Miami, where he currently plays.

It was previously reported that Messi does not want to return to Barcelona because of Joan Laporta and his circle.
