Barcelona President Joan Laporta has spoken out regarding the birthday party thrown by winger Lamine Yamal to celebrate his 18th birthday.
Following the celebration, the young footballer faced criticism for inviting performers with dwarfism to entertain guests.
Laporta said, as reported by Mundo Deportivo:
Yamal's party? What I regret is not having gone. They’re 18. They chose this one, and it’s kind of fun. He did it with his friends, with people from the entertainment world. In that sense, I’m glad he threw a good party. It was in the private sphere, then he came to train, and he trains like no other. And in that sense, I have nothing to blame him for. On the contrary, I want to congratulate him, and I’m glad they had fun at a birthday party.
Lamine Yamal is a product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy and has been part of the first team since July 2023. Last season, he played 55 matches for the club, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists.
Yamal's contract with the Catalan club runs until the end of June 2031, and Transfermarkt estimates his market value at 200 million euros.
Last season, Barcelona won the league, the Cup, and the Super Cup in Spain.
