The management of FC Barcelona is preparing to settle outstanding salary debts to all former players in the near future, according to Sport.es.
The report indicates that payments will be made to players and coaches who agreed to defer their salary payments in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic to support the club. This group includes Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembélé, and others.
A total of 16 million euros will be distributed, with payments expected to be made on Monday, June 30. The largest debt is owed to Messi, amounting to nearly six million euros.
Messi is a former product of Barcelona's youth academy. During his time with the team, he played 778 matches, scoring 672 goals and providing 303 assists. The Argentine played for the club until 2021 before joining PSG as a free agent. Since 2023, the 38-year-old forward has been playing for MLS club Inter Miami.
Previously, Barcelona officially announced that the team will return to its home stadium, Camp Nou, on August 10, 2025. The Times reported that the Catalan club is looking to loan Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
