Bayer Leverkusen have established a new record in the Bundesliga for spending in a single transfer window, investing €198 million to strengthen their squad.
According to Transfermarkt, no club in the history of the German league has previously spent such an amount in one transfer period.
Notably, much of the investment focused on strengthening key positions ahead of the European competitions and the Bundesliga title race.
In second place for spending in Bundesliga history are RB Leipzig, which invested €187 million on new players in the 2023/2024 season. Bayern Munich rank third with expenditures of €179.5 million during the same period.
Earlier, Bayer parted ways with head coach Erik ten Hag after a disappointing start to the season, which included a loss to Hoffenheim (1-2) and a draw with Werder Bremen (3-3).
