Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga believes the team’s run at the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) will give momentum towards the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers. Kenya plays against Gambia and Seychelles in Nairobi as they look to keep alive their hopes of making it to USA in 2026.
The Kenyan CHAN team reached the quarter final in their debut appearance and created a buzz with their performances and belief. And now, speaking to Telecomasia.net, Olunga believes the senior team can pick up from that momentum.

The CHAN team did really well and made the country proud. They played brilliant football that caught the entire nation’s attention and they have created a new belief in the team for Kenyans. I believe we can build on that momentum positively heading into the next two rounds of World Cup qualifiers. Of course we know that our chances are now very slim, but we aim to try and win at least all the games we have remaining. We have some new belief in the team and we can build on this to win these two matches at home.
Kenya only have six points, with the two leaders Gabob and Ivory Coast with 16 and 15 respectively. The most Kenya can get to with the remaining matches is 18 points, neaning their chances of qualification are extremely slim.
