Simba SC midfielder Shomari Kapombe says the change of venue of their CAF Confederation Cup second leg final clash against Morocco’s RS Berkane willl not deter their quest for a maiden continental crown.
Simba had wanted the final to be played at the 60,000-seater Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, but CAF moved the duel to Zanzibar due to quality concerns. The Amman Stadium in Zanzibar has a lower capacity hence a limited number of fans, but Kapombe has told Telecomasia.net that the team is not deterred.
That (change of venue) has not deterred us a bit. Of course we would have wanted to play at Mkapa where we would have had a full stadium and great support but Zanzibar is also home. We will have our huge support here as well and as players, the focus is to do the job on the pitch. Our fans will push us in whichever number they will be and we will go all out to pick victory and make history for our club and the country. Our focus is so sharp and we could see it even in training, everyone is hungry to get a good result.
Simba lost the first leg in Berkane 2-0 and have to at least match the score in the return tie to send the game to penalties, or win by a margin of more than three goals.
The Tanzanian giants have never won an African title and are chasing history.
