Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca found himself in an awkward position during a press conference ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup semifinal against Brazilian team Fluminense.
The boss of the Blues expressed that he believed his team approached the match feeling more fatigued than their opponent.
Maresca: "We've played 63 games this season! European teams come into this competition differently than South American or Brazilian teams. We arrived here after having played 60 games and you arrived here having played…"
Journalist: "70! Fluminense has played 70 games in the same period. It's more games.”
Interestingly, Maresca did not respond to this fact and left the press conference.
The match between Chelsea and Fluminense is set to take place on July 8th at 22:00 GMT+3. The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is being held from June 15 to July 13.
Initially, 32 teams participated in the tournament, divided into eight groups of four clubs each. The two strongest teams from each group advanced to the knockout stage.
The final match of the 2025 Club World Cup will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which has a capacity of 82,500 fans.
