The Mexican Football Federation announced sanctions against 37-year-old striker Javier Hernández, widely known as Chicharito, for comments regarding women that sparked public backlash.
The all-time leading scorer for the Mexican national team has been fined. The Federation warned that any further violations would result in stricter penalties.
Chicharito previously shared a video on social media in which he claimed that women should “let themselves be guided by a man". In the clip, he questioned, "You want men to provide — but call cleaning 'oppression'?"
His comments were criticized by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
During the 2024/25 season, Chicharito played 22 matches for Guadalajara, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
