COPE reports that it is highly likely that Real Madrid's La Liga midfielder and Croatian national football team captain Luka Modric will leave los Blancos after the 2025 Club World Cup.
According to the available data, the 39-year-old center-half will announce his departure and say goodbye to the fans of Real Madrid on the next weekend, unless he agrees with the management of los Blancos on the extension of his employment agreement. Recall that Modric's contract with Real Madrid is valid until the end of June 2025. On May 1, AS reported that Madrid may extend the agreement with Modric and defender Lucas Vazquez in order for them to be able to participate in the club World Cup.
It should be noted that the future coach of Real Madrid, Spanish specialist Xabi Alonso, is an ex-teammate of Modric and would like to see Lukita in the team, but until he takes office he cannot participate in the negotiations.
Modric has been playing for Real Madrid since August 2012, winning with the Spanish Championship four times (2016/2017, 2019/2020, 2021/2022, 2023/2024) and the UEFA Champions League six times (2013/2014, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2021/2022, 2023/2024). In the 2024/2025 season, the Croatian played 34 games in La Liga, where he scored two goals and made six assists, as well as 14 games in the Champions League (three assists). Transfermarkt website estimates the midfielder's market value at five million euros.
On April 14, sports journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Modric intends to buy a stake in English Championship club Swansea City.
