Manchester United would have to pay Ruben Amorim €13.8 million if he’s dismissed from his role as head coach within his first year on the job. The Portuguese coach’s backroom staff would also receive severance, the Daily Mail reports.
Amorim signed with Manchester United on November 1, 2024, on a two‑year deal with an option for a third season. The 40‑year‑old manager’s annual salary is reported at €7.4 million.
Media reports have said United’s board may consider sacking Amorim if results don’t improve over the next three league games. After four rounds, the Red Devils have only four points, leaving them 14th in the Premier League table.
United’s next fixtures are against Chelsea (September 20), Brentford (September 27) and Sunderland (October 4). Former United striker Wayne Rooney has previously said the team is playing worse under Amorim than it did under Erik ten Hag.
