De Jong to Extend Contract With Barcelona This Week, Release Clause Raised to 500 Million Euros

Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong and the football club Barcelona have reached an agreement on extending his contract.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the parties plan to sign the new contract this week, most likely on Wednesday.

The source reports that the new agreement will be valid until 2029, and the release clause will increase from 400 million to 500 million euros.

Recall that Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona in 2019, transferring from Ajax for 85 million euros. The 28-year-old midfielder has played 267 matches for the Catalan club, scoring 19 goals and making 24 assists.

Currently, Barcelona have 19 points and rank second in the La Liga standings.

In the next round, the Catalans will play the derby against Girona. The match will take place on October 18 and start at 18:15 GMT+3.
