As long as Promes remains in Russia, he can continue to play football. But he no longer has a future as a footballer in the Netherlands or other EU countries. Because then he will be imprisoned. Of course, this is a big threat to his career. Staying in Russia is his only way out

The athlete plans to stay with the team at training camps in the UAE.

On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for taking part in a major drug smuggling operation. The 32-year-old forward was previously convicted of stabbing his cousin.

The 32-year-old player has a contract with Spartak until the summer of 2024. Promes played 21 matches this season, scored eight goals and made eight assists.
