
Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is destined to captain the England national team.

For me, he's the one who's probably waiting for Harry to hang up his boots at some point. He's the right one to take over [Kane] for me, because [of] his drive, his personality. Everyone seems to love him, who knows him, who's close to him. He's irreplaceable for England.
The 26-year-old Rice has made 24 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists. England has been drawn into Group L for the 2026 World Cup alongside Croatia, Ghana, and Panama.
