Deco Says Barcelona Were Not Interested in Signing Williams

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco explained why the club failed to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, despite earlier reports about a possible transfer.

According to Deco, Barcelona never actively pursued Williams – the interest came from the player's agent. The club set clear conditions for the transfer, which then needed formal agreement on paper.

Deco said, as reported by insider Fabrizio Romano on social media:

And we made it clear: imposed conditions will not be accepted, because no footballer can dictate terms to the club.

In the 2025-26 season, Williams has played three matches in all competitions, scoring once and assisting twice. Transfermarkt estimates him at €70 million.

After six rounds, Barcelona lead La Liga with 19 points. Their next match is against Sevilla on October 5 at 17:15 GMT+3.
