France head coach Didier Deschamps told Telefoot he had seen Paris Saint-Germain’s statement about injured players and responded to the club’s concerns.
PSG had said they sent a letter to the French Football Federation calling for a new protocol for medical-sporting coordination between clubs and the national team.
The club said forward Ousmane Dembélé and winger Désiré Doué were injured while playing for France in the World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Ukraine (2-0). PSG claimed the national team did not follow medical recommendations for those players.
We're aware of the players' situation when we receive the medical reports. As long as there are players on the pitch, there's no such thing as zero risk. Still, I understand the people at PSG, because if I were in their shoes, I would react the same way. In the week leading up to this, we took it seriously by asking how the player felt before each session.
Deschamps added that the staff always treats these matters with the utmost seriousness and professionalism.
Dembélé is expected to miss about six weeks with a hamstring injury. Doué could be sidelined for up to four weeks.
Separately, it was reported that France striker Kylian Mbappé has equaled Thierry Henry’s record for goals scored for the national team.
