On the day of his death, Radnički 1923 head coach Mladen Žižović complained of nausea, but his concerns were not taken seriously, reports novosti.rs.
The 44-year-old coach collapsed during his team’s Serbian SuperLiga match against Mladost (which Radnički won 2-0) on Monday and later passed away.
In the 24th minute of the game, Žižović fell to the touchline. Witnesses reported his skin was already turning blue or black by the time medics got on the site. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where resuscitation efforts were attempted but proved unsuccessful.
The official cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but preliminary reports indicate that Žižović suffered a heart attack. Notably, nausea is a known symptom of high blood pressure, which can lead to a hypertensive crisis.
Žižović had taken charge of Radnički 1923 on October 23. The team currently sits 10th in the Serbian SuperLiga standings.
Previously, he coached clubs including Radnik, Zrinjski Mostar, Sloboda Tuzla, Al-Hilal (Al-Khulood), Shkupi, and Borac. As a player, he earned two caps for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
