According to ESTADIO Deportivo, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who plays for La Liga club Real Madrid, has decided to remain with los Blancos despite interest from Villarreal.
The source revealed that Villarreal made an offer that seemed like a chance for the 26-year-old to gain consistent playing time in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. However, Lunin intends to compete for the trust of the coaching staff at Real this season.
On July 5, Diario Gol reported that Lunin hopes to spend the 2025/2026 season with the team, despite Real Madrid's intention to renew the contract of their first-choice keeper, Belgian Thibaut Courtois.
In the last season, Lunin played seven matches in La Liga (four clean sheets, seven goals conceded) and two games in the Champions League (four goals conceded). His current contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of June 2030. Transfermarkt estimates Lunin at 18 million euros.
