European Clubs Push to Isolate Israel Amid Russia’s Exclusion

Several European clubs are worried about Israeli teams’ participation in European competitions for the 2025–26 season because of the conflict in Gaza, The Times reports.

Maccabi Tel Aviv have secured a place in the Europa League group stage. As a result, some clubs have contacted UEFA to ask whether they can avoid playing Israeli teams.

Some clubs are questioning why Russia is excluded while Israel is not.

In the Europa League group stage, Maccabi will face Dinamo Zagreb, Aston Villa, Lyon, PAOK, Midtjylland, Bologna, Stuttgart, and Freiburg.
