Portuguese and Dutch fan associations are calling for a boycott of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup due to the inflated ticket prices set by FIFA, RMC Sport reports.
A ticket for the final match costs 6-7 times more than a ticket for the decisive stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Some fans have been saving up to buy tickets for several years but are now questioning whether they want to attend the tournament.
A number of French associations are also considering a boycott as a retaliatory measure, but they have currently appealed to the French Football Federation for support, the source reports.
The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11th to July 19th in Canada, the USA, and Mexico. The current World Cup holders are the Argentinians. In the final of the 2022 World Cup, Lionel Scaloni's team defeated France 3-3, 4-2 on penalties.
