The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) does not plan to increase the number of participants in the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams, reports The Guardian.
Initially, the proposal came from the Uruguayan Football Association. FIFA is required to consider all initiatives.
The final decision will be made at a meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, in October. However, the majority of the council does not find expansion necessary.
Recall that the 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams for the first time in history.
The 2030 World Cup will be hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, each hosting one match.
