As reported by ESPN, FIFA will pay the national team that wins the 2026 World Cup final in the USA, Canada, and Mexico a record reward of $50 million.
According to the source, the total prize money from FIFA for the tournament participants will amount to $655 million. FIFA has set a $9 million minimum payout for teams failing to progress past the group stage, while reaching the final will earn a team up to $33 million.
For comparison, the reigning world champion, Argentina, received $42 million for winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the French national team, which became the world's best at the 2018 tournament in Russia, earned $38 million.
The 2026 World Cup will take place between June 11 and July 19 at 16 stadiums across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time in history, 48 national teams will play in the final part of the tournament, rather than 32. Currently, 42 national teams are guaranteed to appear at the World Cup.
